What better way to enjoy the art of burlesque than by attending an event or festival where like-minded individuals gather to promote their favorite past time? While there are various Burlesque festivals throughout the year in different areas of the country, the following is a list of Burlesque festivals that occur in the month of May.
Asheville Burlesque & Sideshow Festival
The Asheville Burlesque & Sideshow Festival takes place May 25 through May 27 in Asheville, North Carolina. The over-all event celebrates the spirit of vaudeville with a number of different performance types on site, yet burlesque is one of the most popular attractions. There are performances by world-renowned burlesque troops, as well as workshops that attendees can sign up to sit in on for a fee.
Charleston Burlesque Festival
Held at the South of Broadway Theatre in North Charleston, South Carolina, the Charleston Burlesque Festival occurs during the last weekend of May. Some of the top names in burlesque from around the United States are in attendance, ready to put on a show that won't soon be forgotten. This event sells out fast.
Show-Me Burlesque Festival
Known for its diverse Vaudeville history, St. Louis, Missouri is the perfect place to host the annual Show-Me Burlesque Festival in May. The event takes place over three nights, with burlesque performances taking place at Jumpin' Jupiter, a burlesque theater. Sheldon Concert Hall hosts the second night of the event, at which guests will enjoy not only burlesque, but boylesque as well. Finally, the Casa Loma Ballroom hosts the last night of the festival, with burlesque performances and other fantastical side-shows on the menu for all to enjoy.
