Burly-Q: Giving Burlesque Some Extra Edge!
by Burlesque.com
?The trio of three very talented stage actors, Jay Rogers, Fred Barton, and Will Taylor will all be participating in free readings in NYC of Burly-Q! A Gay Burlesque.
They will be doing their readings at Amas Musical Theatre, and it will be in conjunction with the Amas Musical Theatre Lab series, and it starts December 13th at the Players Theatre.
Burly-Q! was original conceived and directed by Phillip George, and this was the same person that co-directed Forbidden Broadway. The show will play on December 13th at 6:00 PM and December 14th at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
The great ensemble cast includes such notorious names as Fred Barton, Andrew Briedis, Jay Rogers, Will Taylor, Jake Warnecke, and more.
Burly-Q! was penned by George, Peter Morris, Barton, Tom Orr, and David Caldwell, and a troupe of additional writers was brought in to provide supplementary material. It is supposed to be a parodic tribute to classic American burlesque, shifting the entire force of burlesque through a gay lens.
The Amas Musical Theatre Lab is a series for writers, poets, and composers to come together and stage their readings. Burly-Q! is one of the most exciting things on the playbill for the Amas musical series.
The writers said that they had always wanted to do a gay burlesque that they could take their mothers too. Several naughty new acts were introduced into the mix, and they could still happily take their mothers to see it.
The Amas Musical Theatre has always been a progressive theatre in terms of diversity and ethnicity pioneering, and it frequently celebrates diversity and minorities through musical theatre.
Burly-Q! will be presented free of charge, which really gives patrons a chance to see the funnier side of burlesque wrapped around a gay focus. It's truly a unique hybrid in stage history, and it will be sure to titillate audiences and get them coming back for the second and third showing. It's sort of a "madcap tribute" to American burlesque, says the writers, and audiences will have to verify that when they see it in person, but the reviews look positive so far.
