Cheesecake Burlesque Revue: Shakin into the News!
by Burlesque.com
?The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue began at a birthday party that became a little too much fun. Midori Colada had a burlesque workshop at her party, led by Vancouver burlesque artist Little Woo. While begun by a group of friends for their own enjoyment, they quickly started a formal troupe. Originally called The Velvet Smut Revue, the official Cheesecake Burlesque Revue debuted in 2007.
While originally an amateur troupe, these ladies have since won international burlesque awards for their shows. Members of the troupe, with such fabulous names as Betsy Bottom Dollar, Ginger Kittens, and Champagne Sparkles, are bringing the Cheesecake style to Paris, New York, and New Orleans. The troupe has also been nominated as the Touring Artist of the Year. They've already won the "Next Big Thing" award.
They're performing at the Victoria Operatic Society Fundraiser at the Metro Studio Theatre in Victoria in late March. They also have a range of revues and workshops running throughout April at Golden Civic Centre in Golden, BC, the Columbia Valley Arts Council in Invermere, BC, and the McKim Theatre in Kimberely, BC. On May 12, the ladies will be performing at the WAM! A Celebration of Wine and Music festival at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna, BC.
Perhaps part of the group's great appeal comes from their roots as just a group of women who got together to nourish their passion for burlesque. They take their mission to perform burlesque "with confidence, humour, and sass" seriously. However, that seriousness is only in their commitment to their mission, it doesn't interfere with the charming wickedness of their performances. Indeed, they consider part of their mission to inspire and encourage their audiences and create a strong, trusting bond among the troupe's members.
